Babush surrenders, arrested in rape case, medical report positive
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 05 May 2016 15:45 ISTSt Cruz MLA Babush Monseratte finally surrendered to Goa police in the case of raping a minor girl.
The victim girl has already identified him and medical reports have also proved that the girl was raped, said police sources.
Babush, who was in Mumbai, came to the crime branch police station at Ribandar along with his MLA wife Jennifer and supporters today afternoon.
The police however arrested Babush at around 8.30 pm. He would be now produced before the court, asking for police custody, after medical examination.
Babush surredered to the police after police served a deadline to him to surrender by 7 pm today.
The minor girl aged 16 from North East has told the police that she was seduced with a drink and was raped by Babush in March.
The girl was recently arrested on the charge of stealing step-mother’s jewellery and was sent to Apna Ghar, where she broke down, revealing the truth.
Babush however still maintains that he is being politically targeted by filing a bogus case against him when actually the girl was a criminal.
The police, on the other hand, have already started gathering evidence by searching his Taleigao farm house, where Babush allegedly raped the minor girl.
After the complaint by the victim girl was filed at Panaji police station, the case was transferred to Women’s police station, which comes under crime branch.
Crime Branch SP Kartik Kashyap is personally monitoring the investigation and was present at the farm house while conducting the search.
