Borkar, Anwesha bag national SA Awards for Children and Youth Lit
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 16 June 2016 13:41 ISTGoa’s eminent writer Dilip Borkar and young writer Anwesha Singbal have bagged this year’s prestigious Sahitya Academy awards in children’s literature and youth literature respectively.
The awards were finalised at the Executive Board meeting of Sahitya Academy held at Imphal in Manipur today morning, said Tanaji Halarnkar, convenor of Konkani advisory board.
Borkar has been awarded children’s literature award for his story book ‘Pintuchi Kallbhonvddi’ (पिंटूची काळभोवंडी).
Singbal bagged the award for her poetry collection ‘Sulus’ (सुलूस).
ANWESHA SINGBAL
This is Singbal’s first poetry collection. Her next poetry collection ‘Padsaad’ (पडसाद) is getting released next month.
She had earlier bagged Yuva Chaitanya Puraskar of Goa Konkani Academy in 2014.
Singbal, a law graduate, has been writing literature since her childhood.
Her father late Arun Singbal and mother Deepa Singbal are also writers.
Singbal has worked as the general secretary of Konkani Bhasha Mandal and is also one of the organisers of Goa’s famous Goa Yuva Mahotsav.
DILIP BORKAR
Veteran writer Dilip Borkar has almost 25 books to his credit, ranging between 8 children’s books, 5 dramas, 4 travelogues, 2 novels, 2 one-act plays and other literature.
He is the recipient of Sahitya Academy award in 1995.
Known also as a columnist and publisher, Borkar has been editing a Konkani magazine ‘Bimb’ for the last 10 years.
He has played a leading role in the students’ movement in ‘80s and was one of the leaders of the historic official language agitation in late ‘80s.
He was also the president of Goa Konkani Academy for a brief period.
