CCP: Babush wins but not happy, BJP loses but still cheers

Panel of Babush Monseratte has won the election of City Corporation of Panaji, but he is not happy. And Bharatiya Janata Party has lost it, but still in cheerful mood.

In a 30-seat CCP, Babush panel won 17 seats with a clear-cut majority to sit in power. The BJP, on the other hand, got 13 seats in spite of the party being in power at the state level.

“I am not at all happy with the result”, said Babush, who was confident of winning 27 seats and making AAP in Panaji (AAP winning 67 seats in 70-member Delhi).

But he has found the Congress panel to blame for his ‘miserable defeats’ in many wards.

“Congress played as B team of the BJP and spoiled our chances. People should now realise who is with whom”, the St Cruz MLA told goanews.com.

He has also lost two wards in Taleigao, his bastion, “because I did not campaign there”, he says.

Panaji’s BJP MLA Siddharth Kuncalienker however is happy even after losing the CCP poll.

He managed to win 11 seats this time, with one extra, while Babush panel won only 10.

“We lost 3 to 4 wards with hardly 1 to 4 votes. Otherwise we would have scored better”, feels Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s blue-eyed boy.

Happier than him is Dattaprasad Naik, BJP’s Taleigao candidate, since he made inroads in Babush’s constituency by winning two seats this time.

The saffron brigade could not win a single seat in Taleigao in 2011.

Besides Taleigao, Naik’s wife Sheetal also won in Ward 5, which falls in Panaji Assembly constituency.

BABUSH RETRACTS ON PANAJI

When asked whether he is still bent upon contesting Panaji constituency in the forthcoming Assembly election, Babush told goanews.com: “Well, options are still open”.

He had earlier made a statement to contest from Panaji, come what may.

Kuncalienker however sounded jubilant because he has managed to counter Babush’s threat with CCP result.

“I have no threat in Panaji”, he claimed.

This is the first election Siddharth has contested without Parrikar campaigning for him.
