Rane will be active, not replaced: Chella

The Congress leadership today assured that opposition leader Pratapsing Rane will be active in the Assembly, while dismissing the possibility of replacing him as the CLP leader.

A Chellakumar, who has been camping in Goa since yesterday to tackle the problem of reported revolt against Rane, told the media today evening that not a single party MLA has demanded leadership change.

Chellakumar, the All Indian Congress Committee secretary, visited the Assembly session today to personally watch the performance of his party members.

Perhaps this is the reason Rane, even before Question Hour, raised the issue of restricted number of questions, which the speaker clarified that it was a decision approved by the whole Assembly in the last session.

Congressmen were however seen quite aggressive in the House and literally argued with the Speaker when the issue of cheques of social schemes like Laadli Laxmi came up in the House.

Speaker Rajendra Arlekar had to literally stand up on his legs to pacify the opposition members.

The aggressive members were mainly Aleixo Reginald Lourenco, Babu Kavalekar and Mauvin Godinho.

“You will see our members more aggressive in future”, Chellakumar told the media in the evening.

He seemed quite happy with the performance of the members, though he plans to meet them again tonight after having one round of meeting last night.

Though he did not admit that Rane was not active, the Goa observer said: “you will now see Rane active in the House.”

He was talking to the media after meeting organizational leaders and wings, including PCC and block level members at the Congress House.

Chellakumar claimed that not a single MLA has made any formal demand to him replace Rane as the CLP leader.

St Cruz MLA Babush Monseratte had yesterday had voiced out his demand of replacing Rane, while also claiming that almost seven legislators out of nine want leadership change.

“I read it only in the media, but I have not received such demand”, claimed Chellakumar.
