goanews desk, panaji | 11 February 2010 23:09 ISTInternational award winner Konkani film “Paltadcho Munis” has been picked up for distribution by a Canadian agency to screen it all over Canada.
The Hollywood Reporter website, has reported the news. It is available if you click here.
According to the report, Indie distributor Vagrant Films Releasing has picked up the Canadian rights to Indian director Laxmikant Shetgaonkar's "The Man Beyond the Bridge" ahead of a Berlin screening.
Vagrant Films' Ryan Bruce Levey inked a Canadian distribution deal with Raja Chhinal of NFDC India at Rotterdam.
When contacted, Shetgaonkar told GOANEWS that it is a remarkable step for India's regional cinema that a non-Hindi film having no stars in it has been picked up for screening in Canada. This could provide a great boost to the whole regional film industry in the country.
Screening of commercial Hindi films abroad is however a common feature nowadays.
The 96-minute film won the most prestigious International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award in the Discovery category at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year.
The Konkani film recently also made it to the world's 101 best films of 2009 list.
