"Paltadcho Munis" for NETPAC award in Berlin
GOANEWS DESK | 29 January 2010 23:44 ISTHighly acclaimed Konkani film ''Paltadcho Munis'' (The Man Beyond the Bridge), directed by Laxmikant Shetgaonkar has been nominated for the prestigious NETPAC award in the upcoming Berlin International Film Festival this year.
It is the only Indian film in ''The Forum'' section of the Berlin festival, also known as Berlknale, focussing on one grade, experimental essays, political reportages and yet-to-be discovered cinematographers.
''Everything new or unconventional comes together and finds an audience known for its enthusiasm and discerning cinematic eye,'' according to the Entertainment Network of Goa in an official release here today.
The Konkani film, which recently made it to the world's 101 best films of 2009 list, is one among the ten shortlisted films nominated for the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) award.
The Forum places emphasis on young filmmakers and works that push the limits of the medium and perception itself. Appropriately, all formats are welcome. Documentaries and feature films are treated equally. The Forum programme reflects a desire for a radical, impartial exploration of the grey area between genres. The Forum also shows unusually long films that would have little chance of being screened elsewhere. More than a few unforgettable late nights belong to the history of the festival.
The film has already won the prestigious film critics' Discovery Award at Toronto International Film Festival.
The cast includes Chittaranjan Giri, Veena Jamkar, Prashanti Talpankar and Vasant Josalkar. The music is by Debasish Bhattacharjee/Ved Nair, sound by Rajendra Hegde, cinematography by Arup Mandal and edited by Sankalp Meshram.
