Blood-sucker Dy CM busy colouring RP, neglecting Health: Vishwajeet

Former health minister Vishwajeet Rane calls today’s health minister – deputy chief minister Francisco D’Souza - a blood-sucker, busy with colouring Regional Plan while playing with lives of the patients.

The Valpoi MLA alleges that the health system in the state has totally collapsed with government hospitals in shambles while major private hospitals like Victor Apollo and Manipal Hospital are on the verge of closure.

According to him, the proposed Deendayal insurance scheme is a big scandal as it is yet to be launched while the BJP government has stopped the existing Mediclaim scheme in certain areas.

Citing an example of Cardiothoracic unit at the Goa Medical College hospital, Rane at a press conference said this unit cannot take the load of patients while Mediclaim scheme for Apollo and Manipal has already been stopped due to this.

He alleged that the government is paying cardiologist Dr Guruprasad Naik over Rs five lakh per month while most of the time he is in New York, thus bringing immense load on the junior doctors, who cannot deal with emergencies.

He also blamed deputy chief minister for stopping free medicines and compelling the patients to get blood tests done outside GMC.

The women patients are also suffering, he says, since two mobile units and two breast cancer units are completely destroyed by the authorities out of neglect.

Similar is the pathetic condition of 108 ambulance service which is not functioning efficiently for lack of regular review, monitoring and also maintenance.

The former health minister also doubts whether the GMC would get 150 additional seats, which he had brought the sanction for, since the basic facilities like lecture block, examination block and auditorium are still not ready while the final inspection is in January.

In addition, he alleged that the old lecture block has developed cracks and it could collapse any moment.

The South Goa district hospital work is also going on at snail’s pace and would not be ready by August, feels the Valpoi MLA.

The former health minister Rane once again thus proposes to run Goa government hospitals on PPP basis, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also proposing the same model in many sectors.
