Pollution Control chairman Noronha becomes new GPSC chairman
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 04 March 2016 19:30 ISTJose Manuel Noronha will be the new chairman of the Goa Public Service Commission.
He would step down as the chairman of the Goa State Pollution Control Board probably on Monday, after handing over the charge.
The cabinet today appointed Noronha as the sole member of the GPSC, as the term of Dwarkanath Row ended today.
Before the term of Row could end, Noronha met him and took charge as the sole member of the GPSC, not to keep the statutory body vacant without anybody.
“I have told him to take over as the officiating chairman. Eventually, he would be made the chairman”, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said.
Since GPSC is a statutory body, it is mandatory that its chairman holds no other post in any government or semi-government body.
Thus, Noronha said, he would meet the Chief Secretary on Monday and resign from the GSPCB chairman after handing over the charge.
Noronha had already completed his term of three years as the GSPCB chairman in September last year and was continued in the position as per the government directives.
