How Moti’s Luizinho announcement became ‘Maati’

The Congress today hijacked the ‘intellectual property’ of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and made a U turn on the issue of Sonia Gandhi ‘requesting’ Luizinho Faleiro to continue as Goa’s Congress head and contest from Navelim.
A sort of announcement in this regard was made by Moti Desai, the close confident of Faleiro, known as a ‘proxy president’ in the party circles.
As the vice president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, Moti had yesterday issued a press note claiming that party president Sonia Gandhi has ‘requested’ his state president Faleiro to continue in the position and also contest from Navelim, his former constituency.
Faleiro, his boss, however today denied the news while Moti also clarified that his announcement was his ‘personal opinion.’
The news hit the media offices when actually there was a buzz around that Faleiro had requested Sonia to relieve him from party responsibility.
“Having put the PCC organisation on track, Shri Faleiro had indeed requested Mrs Gandhi to relieve him of his PCC presidentship. Therefore my press note dated 06/01/16 be construed in the right perspective in as much upon the PCC president expressing his desire to be relieved as PCC president was requested by AICC president to continue in office”, said Moti today in a fresh press note.
While stating that this was his personal opinion, he said it need not be attributed to Mrs Gandhi.
Moti however did not explain how the claim of ‘Sonia requesting Faleiro to continue as president and contest from Navelim’ was his personal opinion.
Faleiro, on the other hand, also issued a press note stating that he had not taken any decision to contest Assembly election.
He also confirmed Moti’s statement made today that he has requested Mrs Gandhi to relieve him from the PCC presidentship and find a reliever for him.
“I am the caretaker of her confidence and I will continue to do so as she desires”, stated Faleiro.
Sources in the Congress House however disclosed to goanews.com that Moti was shaken the most with Faleiro’s firm decision to once again detach himself from the Congress in Goa.
Why?
1. Because he loses his position as the proxy president.
2. He has already struck deals with some aspiring candidates to get them Congress tickets.
Though looked foolish, sources say this was the desperate attempt of Moti to hold back Faleiro, by making the announcement on behalf of Sonia, thus elevating himself as the ‘proxy national president’.
The news however created ripples within the Congress circles since announcement of a Congress candidate, that too of the state president, was made when no process in this regard had begun for the Assembly election 2017.
As such an act amounts to grave indiscipline, which the Congressmen normally don’t bother about, Faleiro however released the press note today, explaining the defined process of selecting each candidate.
“Each of the 40 candidates will be selected after consulting the Block, District and Pradesh Election committees, screening committee and finally the central election committee chaired by the Congress President”, stated Faleiro.
Meanwhile, Churchill Alemao, who has quit Congress, has announced that he would contest from Benaulim as the Congress candidate!!!
