Get Up! Stand up! For Human Rights Concert!

Internationally acclaimed Jamacian reggae singer Bob Marley’s anthem on human rights, ‘Get up! Stand Up! Stand up for your rights!’, will reverberate at the Panaji Municipal Garden on 10th December, the International Human Rights Day.
The reggae hit will be part of over 50 songs - espousing the cause of human rights - that will be played by over 14 local bands and musicians at the 5-hour Human Rights Concert organized by the Human Rights Law Network (Goa) (HRLN), an NGO involved in promoting fundamental rights in the state.
The Garcia de Orta public space will come alive on thursday evening, at 5pm, with not just multi-lingual music, but also an art fest involving poetry recital, theatre, exhibition of posters and photographs, videos, contests, a spot-quiz competition, as well as dissemination of information by social organizations like Sangath, Childrens Rights in Goa, Sethu, Care and Compassion and the Law Club.
“The idea is to promote and educate people about their fundamental rights as enshrined in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. And what better way to do it than through the universal language of music,” says HRLN’s Goa Co-ordinator Adv Caroline Collasso.
All the songs selected, screened by the HRLN team, are related to day’s theme and will be performed free by the artists.
The whole event has been put together by lawyers team of Dola Tulkar, Sergio Pinto and Caroline Collasso.
The concert preparations has witnessed an outpouring of well-wishers who have come forth to help in cash, kind, time and effort, whether it be the students community, event setup vendors, the supportive public or business community.
Bull’s Eye Entertainment and event production professional Sushant Tari, known for his award winning 2014 IFFI production, pitched in with the sound, lights, power and décor setup for the event.
Musicians who will play at the concert include Brothers in Arms, Chrystal Farrell, Funk Factory, Ashly (Purple Rain), Lester ( A 26) , Willy Goes, Sidhanath Buyao, Sameer Kapadi, Tanya Ferreira, Andre De Souza , Glen Rodrigues, Susan Badyari, Care and Compassion, Rui Lobo amongst others.
Short skits will be performed by the Salgaoncar College of Law, Xavier College, as well as by Sangath, the world renowned NGO working in the area of mental health.
