Dilip wants Damu’s head for Fatorda debacle, Damu says NO

Being unable to win a single ward in Fatorda Assembly constituency for Margao municipal polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party cadres have started publicly blaming their leader Damu Naik, in a Congress style, demanding his resignation.

Dilip Naik, Damu’s election agent in the 2012 Assembly poll, has demanded Damu’s resignation from the chairmen’s posts of the Entertainment Society of Goa as well as Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

Damu however has dismissed the demand, terming it illogical, as he was given these responsibilities after he was defeated in the election and not a reward for his victory.

“Linking these organisations to the municipal poll has no logic”, feels Damu.

But Dilip feels otherwise.

“Damu has lost the credibility as the leader of the party in Fatorda after the debacle in municipal polls”, he feels.

It is a fact that Damu’s candidates could not win a single seat in Fatorda constituency as Fatorda independent MLA Vijai Sardesai’s front swept the poll, winning all the 11 wards.

“Victories and defeats are part of elections. But it is not proper to insult 900 party cadres and undermine the hard work they have put in for elections”, says Damu.

Dilip, who worked as the election agent in 2012, however says that Damu lost the Assembly poll because he failed to keep in touch with the voters.

“Earlier two victories of Damu were nothing but the advantage he got due to division of votes”, says Dilip.

Damu however counters this argument stating that Dilip himself had lost contact with the voters since he left for Gujarat soon after 2012 polls and was completely inactive in the municipal polls, after he returned recently.

When journalists asked what work he had done for the party candidates in municipal elections, Dilip preferred to avoid the question.

According to him, majority voters in Fatorda are in favour of the BJP and this has been proved in the Lok Sabha election held last year, where BJP scored over Congress in this constituency.

“But they don’t want Damu. He should step down immediately to protect dignity of the party as well as the workers”, feels Dilip.

Damu however counters this argument, stating that neither he was contesting the municipal election nor there was a party symbol.

“He should not insult our good candidates and committed cadres in this fashion”, reiterates Damu.
