BJP-Mauvin hold Vasco fort against Nana-Jose, win 15
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 27 October 2015 15:35 ISTMine owner Nana Bandekar could not make a major dent in the port town of Vasco as Milind-Carlos-Mauvin combine held the fort by winning more than the seats required to form council in the 25-member municipality.
The BJP-Mauvin combine won almost 15 seats, leaving only 6 seats for Nana Bandekar-Jose Philip’s Vasco Development Front and four for the independents.
The municipal election of the port town had become crucial as Nana Bandekar, Vasco-based president of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, had entered the electoral battle with his ‘power’.
The Vasco municipality comprises of 10 wards from Mormugao Assembly constituency, 11 from Vasco constituency and 4 from Dabolim constituency.
Mormugao is presently represented by power minister Milind Naik, Vasco by BJP legislator Carlos Almeida and Dabolim by Mauvin Godinho, the Congress MLA, who has found friend in the BJP.
The BJP managed to win 6 out of 10 seats in Milind’s Mormugao, 8 out of 11 in Almeida’s Vasco and 1 in Mauvin’s Dabolim.
The rest 9 got divided with 6 going to VDF and 4 independents.
