GUJ expels Rupesh, condemns Mickky
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 21 October 2015 20:30 ISTThe Goa Union of Journalists today expelled Rupesh Samant, who is facing series of charges of sexual harassment and is presently absconding.
As the Goa police have failed to nab him for over 25 days, the GUJ is also planning a morcha to the Women’s police station.
The decision to terminate membership of Samant from GUJ was taken at today’s executive committee meeting.
Following filing of four FIRs against Samant based on five complaints of sexual harassment by women journalists, Samant was suspended while issuing him a show cause notice.
He however did not respond to the notice in last 15 days.
MICKKY CONDEMNED
GUJ has also strongly condemned statements made by Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco that FIRs filed against Samant by his women colleagues is “a 'frame-up' by the media fraternity.
In a press note, GUJ said Mickky’s statement amounts to insult of victim journalist girls, who have taken courage to come out and complain against the perpetrator despite the odds.
Mickky made the statement to a section of media soon after he was released from the jail.
GUJ also plans to meet Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar as well as the Director General of Police T N Mohan, stating that police are not serious in tracing Samant.
If the police fail to arrest Samant over the next few days, GUJ said, it would organise a morcha to the women’s police station.
The date of the morcha will be intimated shortly, said GUJ.
