"Are you getting married again ?"
26 April 2001 22:57 IST Justice B H Marlapalle, fuming with anger, adjourned the final order on the anticipatory bail application of Dayanand Narvekar, president of the Goa Cricket Association and former deputy chief minister, till 2.30 pm today.
While the court room was jam-packed once again to hear the order today morning at 10.30 am, the high court judge said he was disturbed reading the press reports that Narvekar had come to the court with his supporters, a flower-deck car and a band.
"It is a matter any nationalist should get disturbed of and you are celebrating it", he asked, referring to the bogus ticket scam Narvekar is being implicated into at the final cricket ODI played between India and Australia in Goa on 6 April.
"Are you getting married for the second time", asked Justice Marlapalle in anguish, cautioning Narvekar's counsel that he would not allow the court room or the court premises to be converted into a political turf to take political mileage.
He said the court was not deciding whether Narvekar is guilty or not but whether rejecting Narvekar's anticipatory bail application by the district and sessions court was correct or not.
Warning Narvekar not to lose his balance but behave like an educated person, Justice Marlapalle adjourned the order till 2.30 pm, stating that he wants to see his conduct.
He has decided not to allow anybody in or around the court premises, except the bar members, the government officials and the media persons at the time of delivering the order.
