BJP wins 21 seats, with MGP 24 seats, Cong only 9

In a historic election that stunned everybody, the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the single largest party with absolute majority of 21 seats in the 40-member House.

The BJP-MGP alliance won altogether 24 seats, with the MGP winning three seats in Ponda taluka – Madkai, Priol and Ponda.

The Congress was miserably pushed down to only nine seats.

The Goa Vikas Part won two seats, in Nuvem and Benaulim.

Independent candidates, for the first time in the history of Goa, won five seats, in Bicholim, Porvorim, Fatorda, Navelim and Velim.

The Nationalist Congress Party, ally of the Congress, could not win a single seat out of seven allotted to them.

BJP leader Manohar Parrikar, who is tipped to be the chief minister, has said they would form the government of the alliance in spite of having absolute majority.

The BJP has won 13 seats in North Goa (including Ponda taluka) while eight seats they achieved in South Goa.

Congress, on the other hand, got five in the North and four in the South.

There are three independents in the South and two in the North.

The MGP got all three seats in the North, that too in Ponda taluka.

Mickky Pacheco’s Goa Vikas Party got its both seats in the South, in Salcete taluka.

The voters of Goa have given a decisive mandate against the Family Raaj and shown that despite using huge money power, the voters can give shock treatment to even established Politicians...The regime of cuts, commission, auction of jobs, mining loot, drug peddling etc, needs to come to an end . Good to see the Winning Politicians going ahead taking all sections of the society with them...This needs to be kept up and the looted money recovered.

The HC and the Observers coming frequently to visit Goa, need to be thanked for their great contribution for helping in defeat of the corrupt arrogant forces who got wealthy at the cost of public money...

The people of Goa have voted for a change. Congrats to all Goans!! As Manoharbab rightly says, it's a victory for the people of Goa first. At last, Goa will see some good development, which the Goans are waiting for!! But the challenge has just begun - good governance and administrative reforms badly needed.

And Sandeshbab, kudos to your wonderful coverage. I was glued to www.goanews.com today. Keep it up!!

Power to the people of Goa

The Goa election results have thrown a resounding mandate against congress. People have kicked the congress to where it belongs.

The so called ‘indisputable netas’ are thrown in the gutters. The Alemao his irmaos and their puppies, Daddy and baba and their cronies, the Naiks and his currupt extensions all gone. Good riddance. It would have been an icing on the cake had the Daady, Baba, Digo, and the monsters would have bitten the dust too.

Anyway, let us hope that peace, stability, and prosperity comes to Goa. It is also a lesson to the current politicians not to take peoples will for granted, don’t test their nerve. It is pleasing to see that to some extent caste and religion played minimal role in this election.

Kangress had fooled the people for a long time, their overconfidence, over exuberance and no-limit-greed spelled doom for the party and the leaders.

I hope BJP leaders learn from their predecessors and do not commit the same mistakes as them.

MORE POWER TO THE PEOPLE OF GOA
