Advani to launch BJP campaign

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Kishenchand Advani will formally launch the party's campaign for June 2 Assembly elections in Goa.

"Advani will launch the party's election campaign by addressing a public meeting on May 21," party's national spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Tuesday told reporters.

BJP has declared its candidates on 34 constituencies while strategic alliance is being worked out in six seats.

Contradictory of its earlier practice of kicking off campaign from rural constituencies, the BJP, this time, will have its first public meeting at Panaji, a constituency repsented its chief ministerial candidate, Manohar Parrikar.

Parrikar has won from Panaji seat during the last two assembly elections and is contesting for the third time from the constituency.

Rudy said the BJP during its fortnight long election campaign will have national leaders like Sushma Swaraj, Najyot Singh Siddhu, Venkaiah Naidu, Muktar Abbas Naqvi and others addressing public meetings.

The youth wing of BJP has already declared its conventions, which will be addressed by Sidhu besides BJP Yuva Morcha national president Amit Thakkar and Rudy.

The leaders stated that the meticulously planned election campaign would have more stress on door-to-door campaigning and meeting individuals.

Interestingly, BJP refused to vouch for Congress' demand to lift ban on hoardings and posters during electioneering.

"BJP has chosen mode of campaign which is one to one," Rudy said.

The final phase of campaigning will have BJP chief Rajnath Singh arriving in the coastal state to address concluding public meeting on May 30.
