Tillari water supply may not resume till weekend
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 20 January 2016 22:24 ISTGoa will not get water supply from Tillari dam at least till the weekend.
Goa’s water resources department has however ruled out the possibility of water shortage.
A senior official from the department told goanews.com that they have made alternate arrangement for drinking water purpose.
The Assnora water treatment plant of 120 MLD was getting water from Tillari dam, which was later supplied to Bardez, Bicholim and Pernem talukas.
The supply has stopped since yesterday due to the major leakages identified in the sub-standard canals bringing Tillari dam water to Goa.
WRD official said water from Assnora River is being pumped out to meet the requirement of Assnora treatment plant, besides also supplying water from the Amthane River.
“I don’t think there should be shortage of water supply since our alternate arrangements should work fine”, he said.
He however could not assure whether water supply from Tillari would resume by weekend.
He was also silent on the water supply for irrigation purpose, stating that is not his area.
The official however confirmed that the canal has developed big holes near Sasoli village in Maharashtra, which the authorities are repairing.
“You don’t know how long it would take but we are hopeful of getting the repair work completed in next four days”, said the Goa official.
He also informed that the major cracks to the canal have developed despite the repairing work was completed last month.
This is the third consecutive year the canals coming to Goa are developing cracks.
Tillari is a joint project of Goa and Maharashtra.
