GF marches to Verna, demand legislation on 80% jobs to locals

Goa Forward has moved into action on the issue of 80% jobs to locals in private sector while demanding legislation on it by 1st May, the International Workers’ Day.

GF activists in a morcha today stormed Verna Industrial Estate, seeking to know how many industries are employing 80% locals.

Taking a morcha to the office of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation at Verna estate, GF president Prabhakar Timble has served an ultimatum of 11th April to furnish all the information in this regard.

“If we don’t get the information as assured, we will storm the office with a much bigger crowd”, warned Timble.

The mob also marched to the Cipla unit in the industrial estate, where the protestors were assured to furnish all the information regarding workforce by 11th April.

The GF leaders also discussed with Cipla officials the problems they are facing in getting the local workforce.

Addressing the flash mob, MLA Vijay Sardesai threatened to bring Goa’s youth on the streets if the legislation guarantying 80% jobs to locals was not brought by 1st May.

Prashant Naik had a dig at the Goa BJP saying they deserve to observe their Founder’s Day as the U-turn Day and warned the government for taking a U-turn on employment.

Timble said bringing industry to Goa could not be considered development if it does not result into employment of Goans, though the GF welcomes industrial development.

The flash mob also included GF General Secretary Mohandas Lolayekar, Dilip Prabhudesai, former Velim ZP Anthony (Babush) Rodrigues, Vincent Rodrigues, Margao councilors Pooja Naik, Lyndon Pereira, Jose Fernandes and Peter Fernandes.
