NSUI approaches HC for CBI probe in drugs case

The Goa unit of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has moved the Bombay High Court pleading a CBI probe into the policemen-drug peddler nexus case in the state.

In a petition filed with the Goa bench here yesterday,NSUI Goa chief Sunil Kawathankar demanded that the case behanded over to the central investigation agency as the conductof the police officers probing it was doubtful.

"There''s doubt in the integrity of the police officersinvestigating the case as some of the accused in the case havebeen released," Kavathankar said in his petition.

The petition would be heard next week by the bench here.

Seven policemen were arrested last year after Israelidrug lord Yaniv Benaim alias Atala had confessed about hislinks with the policemen who were allegedly supplying himdrugs.

Swedish national and Atala''s former girlfriend LuckyFarmhouse had shot the confession on the tapes exposing thepolicemen-drug peddler nexus in the state.

NSUI earlier had given 48 hours ultimatum to Goa ChiefMinister Digambar Kamat to hand over the case to CBI or theNational Investigation Agency (NIA).

Kamat, however, had claimed that he has not received anyultimatum from NSUI, which happens to the frontal students''wing of his party.

If anything is known to anyone about hot beverages including FENI and URRAK, and even how to handle those usual drinks, it was the NIZ Goenkar. In the thick of it if someone showed unusual behaviour, like talking to a swaying palm tree, he was understood to be a litle tipsy to be left alone. And everything went its way, not much concerned.

But the modern day to day life has changed everything, including the pressures of living, unhappiness abounds.

To my lnpwledge, drugs were totally unknown in this locale, until the hippies landed here in the sixties, as a by-product of freedom of the West, where freedoms crossed the line and turned into license. Our very Indian culture background and primitive sort of way of life versus everything "phoren", was to change forever.

And the avarice of human kind brought us into so-called tourism industry and now we are in this miserable mess, never to return to the original form-our culture.

Therefore, even now we are fully clothed on the beaches, while "phoren" eyes look down on us as primitive, given that we are unable, shy to appear in a bikini- otherwise an acceptable situation to everyone else, elsewhere.

The thing is we were not prepared, apprehensive, braced to be launched unto such a situation because we are a conservative by any count.

Now, there is money in drugs, flesh trade and everything else does not matter to the point that all have become monsters and blame everyone else, except oneself. Our conscience cannot be cleansed of the rot which has possessed us.

After one or two visits after coming here some ten years ago, to settle from abroad it has been my inclination to loathe at the very thought of visiting any of the famous beaches again. A stranger in my own country.

The investigations need to be carried out by some impartial agencies so that the truth could come out?
