Mopa airport starts rolling as RFPs published tomorrow
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 January 2016 21:52 ISTThe Request for Proposal for the Mopa airport would be published tomorrow for the four companies shortlisted to bid.
They will have to bid within 90 days, by 16 April.
This was announced by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today while speaking on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address.
The bidders are Airport Authority of India, GVK Mumbai, GMR Airport, Essel Infra Mumbai and Voluptas Developers.
The bidder who quotes for the highest amount for revenue sharing with the government would be chosen, he told the House.
Parsekar had already announced yesterday that giving preference to Goans for jobs would be a written precondition to the Greenfield airport worth Rs 3300 crore.
The 15-year old proposal of the airport in Pernem taluka got a shot in the arm with the Ministry for Environment and Forest granting environmental clearance on 20 October last year.
The Goa cabinet then immediately approved the technically qualified bidders, who had sent their RFQs earlier.
The controversial airport, which is mainly opposed by Salcete taluka in the South as it would affect tourism business there, would be completed in four phases.
The first phase, worth Rs 1800 crore, is expected to be completed by 2019 and would start handling around 44 lakh (4.4 million) passengers annually.
The ultimate handling capacity of the Greenfield airport would be 1.33 crore (13.3 million) passengers.
Finally The fact that it takes 15 years and a BJP Govt for a proposal to get some concrete shape speaks volumes of the Congress
Not that the BJP has the people's welfare at heart but at least Goa will have an asset
Instead of just taking people for a ride like the earlier this Govt also takes you for a ride but provides a car and fuel too
