Writers plan Pune-Kolhapur-Dharwad march from 25 to 28 Nov

Eminent writers from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Goa have jointly organised series of programmes in Pune, Kolhapur and Dharwad, remembering Dr Narendra Dabholkar, Com Govind Pansare and Prof M M Kalburgi, who were killed by fanatics.
“Dakshinayan: Thinking South”, a unique programme is being organised from 25 to 28 November, in protest of the inability of Maharashtra and Karnataka governments in nabbing the culprits, who killed three rationalists of the country.
Dr Dabholkar was gunned down on 20 August 2013 while Com Pansare was killed on 20 February and Prof Kalburgi on 30 August this year, in a broad daylight.
Following this, some Hindu right wing fanatics had threatened some other rationalist writers to meet similar fate while Karnataka police arrested Sameer Gaikwad, Sadhak of Sanatan Sanstha in Kalburgi murder case.
The writers have thus planned three actions, which coincide with Com Pansare’s birth anniversary on 26 November and Prof Kalburgi’s on 28 November.
Damodar Mauzo, Goa’s eminent Konkani writer told goanews.com that the action would begin with a public function at S M Joshi hall in Pune, from 10 am to 1 pm, remembering Dr Dabholkar.
This would be followed by another function on 28 November near Pune University where writers would discuss ‘Progress of science and counter-science Ethos’, after they return from Dharwad.
Writers of Gujarat and Maharashtra would proceed from Pune to Kolhapur on 26 November, to participate in a daylong programme at Bindu Chowk in Kolhapur.
After paying homage to Com Pansare on his birth anniversary, the writers would gather at Bindu Chowk to have a workshop on “Economy, knowledge, freedom and marginal communities in the 21st century India,’ from 11 am to 4 pm.
This would be followed by a public meeting from 5 pm onwards.
Simultaneously, two Sangharsh Yatra have been planned, one from Pune to Kolhapur from 21 to 26 November, to be led by Prakash Ambedkar.
The second Yatra has been organised by CPI’s student and youth bodies from Kolhar in Ahmadnagar (Com Pansare’s birth place) to Kolhapur.
All the writers would then proceed to Dharwad to pay homage to Prof Kalburgi, one day in advance of his birth anniversary.
Mauzo said six Sahitya Academy winning writers from Goa would participate in Kolhapur and Dharwad programmes, along with others.
The Goan writers, besides Mauzo, include Datta Damodar Naik, Mahabaleshwar Sail, Dilip Borkar, N Shivdas and Arun Sakhardande.
