Miransha's Konkani debut 'Juje' makes it at NFDC Film Bazaar

‘Juje’, a feature film by young Goan director Miransha Naik, is yet another Konkani film the NFDC Film Bazaar at the 46th International Film Festival of India has selected for ‘mentoring’.

The National Film Development Corporation also holds Film Bazaar at other film festivals.

Bhavarth, the screenplay of a new Konkani feature film by internationally acclaimed Goan filmmaker Laxmikant Shetgaonkar, is selected in the ‘co-production market’ category, in a list of 19 films selected for Open Pitch marketing.

Juje has been selected in the category of ‘Work in Progress Lab’ as one of the six feature films selected for a final cut under the guidance of internationally renowned mentors.

“This selection will give a big boost to my first feature film in the international market”, states Miransha Naik, a pass-out from the Whistling Woods of Subhash Ghai.

The screenplay of the film, which he had presented while studying at Whistling Woods, was considered one of the best screenplay of his batch.

The whole team of Juje, who are mostly the Whistling Woods classmates, are thrilled over the selection since they would get experienced hands for the final editing of their movie and also the recommendation at international level.

“They will not only mentor the final editing but even promote our film to the distributors and investors at international level”, said Vinit Chandrashekharan, one of the producers of Thin Air Productions.

Selection of any film in the NFDC Film Bazaar nowadays has become a stepping stone in the film industry with films like Titli by Kanu Behl premiered at Cannes Film Festival and Killa (Marathi) premiered at Berlin Film Festival last year.

Benaulim-based Miransha Naik’s short film Ram has already made it at Cannes Film Corner, besides winning five awards with 11 selections at different international film festivals.

The young director tells a one-liner about his film:

“Juje, a terrifying landlord in a small village in Goa drives Santosh, a stubborn teenager on his own path of self-discovery to make a brave and difficult choice.”

He has shot the entire film in Goa, also with most of the Goan actors, in different parts of the state.
