BJP in Goa to repeat Bihar formula for women

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to repeat its Bihar experiment in Goa during the forthcoming state legislative assembly elections while giving seats to women aspirants.

BJP’s Mahila Morcha’s National President Smriti Irani told reporters in Panaji that the party had conducted a detailed survey before allotting the seats during 2010 Bihar assembly elections.

“We had given tickets to 13 women candidates, of which 11 won,” she said adding that a sitting legislator was even denied ticket to make way for a woman candidate. Irani said that similar experiment will be repeated in Goa elections too.

Responding to a question on whether BJP will give more tickets to women in the forthcoming Goa polls, due in 2012, Irani said that `winnability is a humungous factor.’

She said that allotment of tickets is a policy decision that would happen internally. “It will be a party decision and I don’t want to
take on journalists one to one on this issue,” Irani said refusing to state whether elaborate representation will be given to women.

The soap star said that BJP already has a system wherein 33 per cent reservation is given for women in the party organization. “State mahila morcha president is also a part of committee which decides on the ticket,” she said.

Women or men---it makes very little difference. We need candidates who would sincerely and honestly strive to clean the system of all its dirt and filth accumulated over the last five or six decades. We need candidates who would restore the faith of the common man in the system. We need candidates who respect values and who will stick to ideologies and not compromise for chairs. We need candidates who could win the confidence of all communities and who belief in peaceful co-existence. We need candidates who hate corruption and crimes. We need candidates who would put in sincere efforts to put a stop to the destruction that the mining is causing to this land and its people. We need candidates who would put a stop to the rampant spread of drugs, liquor, crimes and gambling.

Women or men makes no difference...........
