Youth to mobilise world opinion on MoI during IFFI

Street play staged by Goan students on MoI

Goa’s self-respecting students and youth have decided to garner support of international delegates of IFFI for the cause of medium of instruction issue.

“Mr Digambar Kamat, Get Well Soon” – a group formed through Facebook campaign, met in the town today and decided to exploit the international fest like IFFI to mobilize international opinion on mother tongue as medium of instruction in primary education.

The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch, the organization spearheading the movement, has decided to boycott IFFI in protest of the government policy to fund English-medium primary education.

Though the government decision has presently being stalled by the high court, chief minister Digambar Kamat continues justifying his decision.

At a National Press Day function held on 16 November, Kamat once again appealed to the parents to introspect on the issue while justifying his decision.

“We will not be an obstacle for IFFI. Rather we would utilize it as an opportunity to reach out to the international audience”, said Adv Surel Tilve, member of the group.

They are planning to mobilize support for their cause by distributing pamphlets, talking to the delegates and requesting them to express their opinion to the media.

Parallel to the red carpet of IFFI, the group of students and youth plans to stage ‘black carpet’ every day in the capital city by making the shoe-clad effigies of MLAs supporting English medium.

They also plan to stage a street play on the issue in the town.
