Govt to encourage NRG participation in development

Dr Wilfred Mesquita, Commissioner for NRI Affairs has said that Goa government will encourage non-resident Goans to participate in the State’s development.
On behalf of the BJP-led government headed by chief minister Manohar Parrikar, he also ensured the NRGs protection to their property and interest in the Goa.
Dr. Mesquita was speaking at the 23rd Annual General Meeting of the Goan Welfare Association at Hyderabad today.

The NRI Commissioner said that Goenkar everywhere have risen to pinnacle of name, fame and glory; many of them have amassed wealth and wielded power in large manner and therefore Goa beacons its sons and daughters to share their intellectual resources, in a big or even small measure, with mother Goa.
He also informed the gathering the announcement made by chief minister Parrikar yesterday about a single-window clearance system for investors to create conducive atmosphere for quick and transparent approvals, sanctions, and quick redressal of grievances.
Dr. Mesquita also said a new scheme “Mhojo Ganv” (My village) is under active consideration of the Goa government.
He also lauded the work of the Goan Welfare Association in Hyderabad for promoting Goan culture and heritage beyond the boundaries of Goa and wished them all the success in all their future endeavours.
The Association honoured 24 children for excelling in studies and three children who topped in SSC, Intermediate and Post Graduation.
Three deserving students were awarded financial assistance to meet their college fees, around Rs 5000 to 6000.
The Association also extended financial help towards medical assistance to some of its aged (senior citizens) members.
The General Secretary Dominic Colaco presented the Association’s annual activities report.
President of the Association Alex Monteiro welcomed the gathering.
Sayonara D’Souza also spoke on the occasion and later proposed a vote of thanks.
