PTI, PANAJI | 11 February 2015 00:11 ISTNone of the four candidates contesting for the Panaji Assembly constituency in the bypoll has a criminal record against them, according to their affidavits as accessed by election watchdog ADR.
The bypoll, which is scheduled to be held on February 13, has four candidates -- Siddharth Kuncalienkar (BJP), Surendra Furtado (Congress), Samir Kelekar and Sadanand Vaigankar (both independents)-- in the fray.
"ADR has accessed the affidavits filed by these candidates, in which three of them have shown their assets to be more than Rs one crore, while none of them have criminal records," Association for Democratic Reforms told this to reporters in a press conference here today.
Furtado, with his assets worth Rs 7.94 crore is the richest among them, followed by Kuncolienkar, who has shown Rs 3.41 crore worth assets in his affidavit.
Kelekar has Rs 1.44 crore worth assets, while another independent candidate Vaigankar has shown Rs 90 lakh assets, ADR coordinator Bhaskar Assoldekar said.
Among the four, Furtado is the least educated, whose educational qualification has been mentioned as 12th pass in the affidavit, while Kelekar has done a doctorate in Information Technology from Columbia University.
The bypoll in Panaji Assembly constituency was necessitated after former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar resigned to join the Central government as Defence Minister.
am happy to know that none of the candidates contesting for the Panaji Assembly constituency in the bypoll has a criminal record against them
This is a healthy trend and is good for our democracy.
