‘Chovoth’ hits rural Goa, massive rise in Covid cases

Covid cases have shown sudden rise in rural Goa since ‘Chovoth’ was over. After one-and-a-half day Ganpati was immersed on 23 August, 3419 cases have been reported in Goa, most of them from rural health centres. Total active Covid19 cases right now are 3649.

A rise of 100 cases has been reported at Ponda health centre since 24 August, from 168 to 268. And a shocking rise at Bicholim HC – from mere 4 to 79 cases, a rise of 75 cases, more than 18 times.

Equally hit are the health centres of Sankhli (70), Betki (54), Valpoi (46), Balli (43), Cortalim (43), Canacona (36), Siolim (35), Corlim (34), Quepem (32), Pedne (27), Shiroda (27), Aldona (27), Curtorim (26), Dharbandora (26), Mayem (26), Curchorem (21), Colvale (21), Navelim (20), Loutolim (9), Sanguem (9) and Casarvarne (3).

From among these 21 rural centres, cases have been rising consistently at least at 11 centres.

However, goanews.com cannot provide authentic figures in this regard since the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) simply refuses to provide daily cases at each health centre. It only provides figures of total cases till date, which also includes cured cases.

To get a rough picture of rising cases, goanews.com has taken the highest figure from these eight days since no patient can get cured within a week. Two weeks or 14 days is a must for confirmation of getting cured.

Compared to this, Covid19 cases are seen declining in the cities, except Mapusa (45) and Porvorim (34).

In Vasco, a Covid19 hotspot a month ago, cases are showing a sharp decline (-24) as also in Panaji (-33) and a new hotspot of Margao (-49).

Though total positive cases today are 3419 since 24 August, the number of cured cases is also quite significant during these eight days: 3105.

This is what happens with misplaced priorities. Now people and politicians will blame the Govt. who are useless anyways and should have issued more stringent protocol during Ganpati.
