Madkaikar will quit if 5 Cong ex-CMs don’t retire

Congress legislator Pandurang Madkaikar has said he would quit the party if five former chief ministers don’t retire, paving way for the young blood to come in the forthcoming Assembly election.

Though he had earlier shown inclination to join the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, the Cumbarjua MLA now plans to wait and take decision at a later stage.

The five ex-CMs of Congress he has named are Pratapsing Rane, Ravi Naik, Francisco Sardinha, Luizinho Faleiro and Digambar Kamat.

“How long will they keep on contesting? Youth is the deciding factor in this election. And no youth is neither with them nor the Congress. How can we win election in such a scenario”, he asked bluntly.

He has also added names of former ministers Churchill Alemao and Subhash Shirodkar.

While Churchill has decided to shift to the Nationalist Congress Party, Shirodkar is still keen on contesting even after losing two consecutive elections to his former PA and industries minister Mahadev Naik.

According to the tribal politician, there is no hope of Congress rising back to the old glory as central observer Digvijay Singh also sits with these old guards and goes back without deciding anything substantial.

Perhaps this is the reason, he says, he continued boycotting the meetings convened by Singh, including the recent one held yesterday.

The three-time MLA also alleges that the Congress party has consistently made injustice to him, though he restrained himself listing it out.

But he is also playing safe in terms of taking a decision.

“I want to wait and see if the Congress paves way to the young blood by denying tickets to these old guards. Otherwise, I will have no other option than quitting”, states the 52-year old politician.

Where will he join? He does not commit.

Though he initially opted for the MGP by praising its leader Sudin Dhawalikar as the only CM-potential material left in the state, he is now holding the decision close to his chest.

There are however strong rumours indicating that he may even join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
