India's rationalists announce 'Chalo Dandi' on 30 Jan, the day Mahatma was killed
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 27 November 2015 22:13 ISTThe intelligentsia of India will march to Dandi on 30 January, the Martyrs’ Day whole country celebrates to observe killing of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, by religious fundamentalist.
A decision in this regard was announced in Dharwad today evening where over 50 writers had a daylong programme in remembrance of Kannada writer Prof M M Kalburgi, who was killed on 30 August.

Tomorrow is Kalburgi’s 77th birth anniversary.
The writers, gathered at Vidhya Vardhak Sangh hall in Dharwad, have a given a call to all the writers, artists, historians, scientists, activists and all other like-minded people to gather at Dandi, a place from where Mahatma Gandhi had started his historic Dandi Yatra.
The intelligentsia of the whole country has risen up against the daylight killings of three rationalist writers - Dr Narendra Dabholkar on 20 August 2013, Com Govind Pansare on 20 February and Prof Kalburgi on 30 August, both this year.
The writers had begun the march from Pune, where Dabholkar was killed, calling it Dakshinayan and concluded at Dharwad after having similar meeting in Kolhapur, where Com Pansare was killed.
Prof Ganesh Devi, a tribal activist and veteran writer, has been chosen as a convenor of ‘Chalo Dandi’ to co-ordinate with the whole intelligentsia class and other people.
Two more Kannada writers in a meeting today declared that they are returning their state awards in protest of the killings and incompetency of the state authorities in nabbing the killers till date.
Earlier, the writers also visited the family of Prof Kalburgi.
