Shifting Navy from Dabolim is anti-national: Parrikar
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 12 November 2014 19:50 ISTShifting naval base from Dabolim to Karwar is anti-national, defense minister Manohar Parrikar made his stand clear on the controversy of retaining only Dabolim and dropping proposed Mopa air port.
“I cannot shift naval base from Dabolim. That would be anti-national. I had said it even when I was the chief minister”, he said, replying to a question at a press conference after he arrived in Goa today.
A demand was made once again recently after Parrikar took over as the defense minister that Dabolim should be freed from naval authorities by shifting the existing base to neighbouring Sea Bird naval base at Karwar in Karnataka.
The demand was made by the South-Goa based organisations, which are opposing the proposed Mopa air port in Pernem taluka, the northern brooder of Goa.
He was brought to Panaji from Dabolim air port in procession to the BJP office, after which he addressed the media at Hotel Mandovi.
However, Parrikar said he would render more help and space to the civilian air port at Dabolim, as the defense minister.
“Don’t ask me what I will do and how I will do. Leave it to me”, he said in his usual style.
The defense minister also pointed out that his own flight was moving over the air port for almost 45 minutes today due to landing issue.
“Such kind of issues would be resolved and passengers would be at more ease”, said Parrikar. render more help and space to the civilian air port at Dabolim, as the defense minister.
