Parrikar reaffirms 6% agro growth

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has reaffirmed that the state would achieve six per cent growth in agriculture, come what may.
“The Planning Commission asked me whether it is possible and I told them I will do it”, he told the Assembly today.
The growth rate under agriculture and allied sector has been substantially low at 1.77 per cent for the year 2010-11 at constant prices as compared to the growth rate of 3.26 in 2009-10.
The Planning Commission, according to Parrikar, has been insisting on a minimum annual growth rate of 4 percent for this sector.
While admitting that the cultivable land has reduced by 5000 hectares more, he is planning to bring this land back into agro activity.
The government has already announced support price of Rs 17 for rice.
Parrikar in fact also praised the decision of Digambar Kamat government to announce support price of Rs seven above the market price of rice.
But to his bad luck, the market price dipped from Rs nine to Rs six, due to which growing rice became unaffordable.
“I am lucky as the price has gone up now and I will have to spend less on the additional subsidy”, he said.
The chief minister also said the state would start agriculture school, if not college.

educaional way will benefit the poorest of the poor,that is in dire need of EDUCATION. GOA is certainly capable of becoming a self-sufficient State.
