HC grants interim relief to Khalap’s Mandrem College, CM faces setback

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar faced a severe setback today with high court granting interim relief to the college run by Khalap in Mandrem.

The college can now admit a fresh batch of students in the first year.

The government had withdrawn NOC granted to the college earlier, based on which the Goa University also withdrew its affiliation.

Khalap had to thus close down the college after the last year’s FY batch passes out next year.

The college had scored 100% result last year and 90% this year.

Pending hearing on the petition filed by Khalap, the Bombay high court at Goa today however granted him interim relief and allowed to admit first year students.

The court has also directed Goa government as well as Goa University to file replies to the petition.

“The next hearing would probably be held next month”, said Khalap.

According to the Congress leader and former Mandrem MLA, the court order is a tight slap on the face of CM Parsekar, who was hell bent upon closing down his college.

The issue has turned political in Parsekar’s Mandrem constituency with all the anti-BJP forces coming together to defeat Parsekar in the forthcoming Assembly election.

“This is the first victory of Mandrem people and the next would follow in the Assembly election”, said Khalap, though he said it is an academic issue and not political.

The issue got aggravated as former CM Manohar Parrikar granted permission to Parsekar to open his BA BEd and BSc BEd College while withdrawing NOC to Khalap’s college.

Khalap runs a college with faculties of BA and BCom.

The issue has turned political in CM’s Mandrem constituency, from where Parsekar is elected for the third time by defeating five-time MLA Khalap.
