ECI not happy with liquor check, tightens Casino monitoring

The Election Commission of India has warned the state excise department to directly intervene if they fail to tighten the movement of liquor in the state.
Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi was down in Goa along with Election Commissioners A. K. Joti and Om Prakash Rawat to review the election preparations.
Speaking to the media today morning, Zaidi said the Commission was not happy with the performance of the excise department in terms of curbing liquor movement in the state.
He has thus given an ultimatum of five days, failing which he has warned that the Commission will directly intervene into the matter.
Zaidi also said that Income tax officials will monitor entry-exit points of all the casinos in the state to check the movement of large amount of money.
The Commission has taken note of the observation made by some political parties that the ‘black money’ for election would exchange hands through casinos.
Following are the measures announced by the ECI to monitor expenditure of all the candidates:
Expenditure Monitoring machinery has been fully activated and preventive measures are being taken with co-ordinated efforts of Income Tax authorities, Banks, Narcotics, Customs, Excise & state Taxation authorities and Police Officials.
Large number of income tax officials has been deployed for enforcement under income tax law.
To monitor the movement of cash through aerial routes, Air Intelligence Units (AIU) has been made operational at Dabolim Airport.
Clandestine currency exchanges along with deposits in benami bank accounts are being monitored.
Movement of money through banking channels are being monitored and arrangements are being made to monitor these suspicious banking transactions.
ROs are being directed to upload affidavits filed by candidates quickly so that income tax authorities carry out real-time monitoring.
MORE WOMEN VOTERS
The Commission has also released the final list of voters, which shows that Goa has more women voters than men.
The women voters are 5.64 lakh while men voters are 5.46 lakh. Almost 18,000 more.
The Commission also enrolled around 50,000 new voters till 1st of January, out of which 32,354 are the first-time voters.
At the same time, name of 26,731 voters have been deleted from the electoral roll.
However, only 35 overseas voters have been registered.
