Did Cong play so strong to reduce Babush tally to 17?

Did the panel of Babush Monseratte really lost many more seats due to the Congress panel or he is making his former party a scapegoat to hide his dwindling popularity?

Babush won the election of City Corporation of Panaji by a simple majority of 17 seats in the 30-member council while he had claimed a sweeping victory with 27.

“The Congress has played as a B Team, spoiling our chances”, Babush told the media soon after the results.

Congress, who could not find candidates to contest the CCP election, finally managed to file only 20 candidates.

In this background, the actual results show that Babush panel won 17 seats where the Congress was contesting while the BJP panel won only 7.

From among these 7 seats, there is  a little chance to say that the BJP won the seats due to division of votes between Babush  panel candidate and the Congress-supported candidate.

In the rest three seats – Wards 15, 24 and 29, the BJP candidates polled much larger number of votes than what Congress candidates polled.

The division of votes, presumably due to the Congress in 4 wards, is as follows:

One such major defeat is in Babush’s stronghold - the Taleigao constituency, where Pramay Mainkar (414), perhaps the youngest corporator of the BJP, won the seat with a margin of 117 votes.

Congress candidate Florian Ferrao polled 137 votes in this ward while Babush’s candidate Haresh Kuncalienker polled only 297 votes.

Another one was the Ward 12, where former Mayor Vaidehi Naik of the BJP won the seat by defeating Babush panel’s Manoj Patil by only 47 votes. Congress candidate Ashley Rosario polled 87 votes here.

The third one is in Ward 25, where BJP’s Vasant Agashikar (353) won by 29 votes while Congress candidate Dinesh Borkar polled only 62 votes, against 324 polled by Babush’s Salil Naik.

The fourth one is in the last ward 30, where Babush’s candidate Viviana Nasnodkar (459) lost by 33 votes while Congress candidate Muktamala Fondvekar polled only 62 votes.

In fact the real challenge here was Santosh Akhadkar, an independent, who polled almost 137 votes.

Hi,

I have read with immense interest the various views of expert commentators on the outcome and fallout of CCP elections.

Many have in fact spelt death knell for one party or the other ( or is it one individual v/s the other) in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

I have been closely following Goa elections since last 5 years on behalf of ADR.

Let me candidly submit that Goan voters are very well read, educated and smart.

The issues too would be very different in the Assembly elections.

To suggest that CCP elections was a dress rehearsal to Assembly elections would tantamount to taking Goan voters for granted that they are stereotype.

I for one find it hard to buy this.

AFTER PANAJI NOW GOA NEEDS TO BE SAVED FROM THE BJP IN 2017 ASSEMBLY POLLS

Kudos to Panjimites. Despite all the fixing and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s highhanded politricks, the BJP was not able to win polls to the Corporation of City of Panaji. Manohar Parrikar had personally monitored and manipulated that politically very tainted delimitation process and the reservations of wards too. He later personally campaigned in Panaji and from Delhi, but the people of Panaji voted very smartly. There is also enough evidence that the Congress backed panel was deviously fielded and funded by the to split the anti-BJP votes.

After witnessing the rampant corruption, sheer bad governance and unending U turns of this government over the last four years, the people of Goa have to now gear for the very crucial 2017 Assembly polls to salvage what remains of a sinking Goa. Through a grand alliance of all Opposition forces, Goans would have to unite and thwart all the underhand moves by the BJP to retain power by dividing the anti-BJP votes. The battle has to be Goa versus the BJP. For Goa to bloom the Lotus must wilt. Jai ho.
