Police are hunting for a man called Aman, the suspected rapist, based on the description given by the victim.
Nearly five lakh tourists visit Goa every year. In the last two years, more than 126 foreign tourists have died in the state. Nearly 60 per cent of the deaths were from unnatural causes.
This is the fourth case of attack on Russian tourist in Goa.
On December 25 last year, two Russian girls had alleged that a taxi driver tried to rape them at Anjuna beach while they were returning from a Christmas party.
On December 1 last year, a 25-year-old Russian girl alleged that Goa politician John Fernandes of raping her in his car near Colva beach.
On May 8 last year, 24-year-old Russian Elena Sukhnova's mutilated body was found on railway tracks near Thivim railway station.
With tourism being encouraged at all levels, one must not be surprised at the growing incidents of rapes and atrocities on women! The drug peddling, drug trafficking, prostitution , gambling, free availability of liquor etc, all come with tourism as can be seen from other tourist destinations throughout the world! When we welcome tourism, we have to be prepared to welcome all these associated evils too!
Goan girls are raped too, but the attention given to Goans is not as much as the foreign tourists...and media plays a role too.
Remember those 5 girls killed by one of the goan duos who fled to mumbai?...one girl was burnt..
First of all i agree with Priya. Whatever she wrote is absolutely correct. All foreigners, who come to Goa wear only two cloths on their body. It changes Gents' mind & rape occurs.
Foreigners who visit Goa, specially ladies, are not dressing up properly. That is the main cause for such types of incidents. Sometimes they are roaming in biknis. They are not feeling ashamed also. Why victims are not Goan girls? (priyarane55@gmail.com)
Goa has been looked up as a preferred tourist destination, but frequent incidents like these makes it look down in shame and agony.
Perception is reality. It's high time when every individuals takes up the ownership and responsibility to make Goa more safe. Blow the whistle, raise an alarm.
Do whatever it takes, to make the millions of tourist who visit Goa every year "feel at home. "
The police of goa are very lax, look at them. They don't even convey any tough messages that is why people take them for granted.
Look at the cops in Mumbai and other states. No one dares to even whistle at a girl. There are squads all around.
All we have in our Goan police force are pandus, who just don't care but are involved in corruption and filling their pockets. God help our goa and our people.
