Nov. Covid toll: No deaths in 2 talukas, No. declines, but Goa not out of death trap

November has brought a little respite with the death toll of Covid coming down to less than half than the previous month and barely crossing the number of daily deaths to more than four.

In fact, there was no death reported on the 29th of November and not a single person has succumbed to the deadly virus from Canacona and Dharbandora talukas.

Compared to 179 deaths (six per day on average) reported in October, the average death rate came down to around three per day (83 deaths) in November.

But it is still double the number of deaths in July (41 deaths).

We thus cannot come to the conclusion that Goa is completely out of a death trap from the pandemic.

12% DEATHS

Among 691 deaths reported to date since the first death occurred on 22nd June, 12 percent of deaths have occurred last month.

October had reported a large number of daily deaths only twice, 13  on the 1st and 10 on the 9th. In November, 12 people succumbed to the deadly virus only on the second day of the month.

Except seven deaths occurred on the 7th of November, Goa reported four or fewer deaths throughout the month. In fact, only one person each lost life on seven days of the month.

And no death reported on 29th November.

BELOW 50

Old people above 60 however continue succumbing to Covid19, but the death rate among the age group below 60 has started coming down. November reported only 20 deaths (24%) in the age group of below 60. And only six deaths (7%) below 50. Two each of them were 29-year and 34-year old.

Except for one 34-year old youth losing his life on 25th November, the second fortnight of November witnessed Covid deaths only in the age group of above 50 and 60.

The death rate among females has also come down to one fourth, 21 out of 83.

SALCETE-BARDEZ

The maximum number of deaths last month was 18 in Salcete taluka, followed by 17 in  Bardez and 12 in Mormugao.

The rest of the taluka-wise death toll is nine in Bicholim, seven in Ponda, five in Tiswadi,  three in Pedne, two each in Quepem and Sattari, and one in Sanguem.

None in Canacona or Dharbandora talukas.

Five persons from Maharashtra (mostly from Sindhudurg) and two from Karnataka also succumbed to the pandemic in Goa last month.
