News Analysed, Opinions Expressed

Society | Covid19

503 fresh cases today, only 73 traced at 8 centres, where else is Covid spreading?

There are 503 fresh Covid19 positive cases found today. But the government’s media bulletin continues misguiding the people of Goa about where exactly these cases are found.

Only eight health centres are showing a rise of only 73 cases in the last 24 hours. Almost 85 per cent cases (430) are missing.

Also, the bulletin states that 688 more people have recovered today. But the comparative analysis of two days gives an impression that only 263 patients have recovered. 425 cases (62 per cent) are missing.

Interestingly, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s Sankhli, which has the highest number of 425 active cases right now, is the only centre showing a rise of 23 cases.

Other five centres in the line, which are also Covid hotspots, are showing a decline in Covid19 cases: Madgao - 24 less (409 active cases), Porvorim - 9 less (392), Panaji - 9 less (330), Vasco - 1 less (318), and Mapusa - 4 less (274).

In reality, all these five hotspots are showing a steep rise in Covid cases this whole month. But it is not known whether cases have actually started declining in these volatile areas. Because almost 85 per cent cases are hidden by the Directorate of Health Services. It refuses to disclose the readymade number of fresh cases and cured cases at each centre.

SECOND WAVE IN ZUARINAGAR?

Goa has 5424 active Covid19 cases right now. Though no day-to-day rise or decline of cases is available in the bulletin, a rough picture could be arrived at by analysing the number of cases from 1st to 26th September.

Cases have started rising once again at the Cortalim health centre, to which attached is the thickly populated Zuarinagar. From mere 85 cases on 1st September, the number has now zoomed up to 263 (272 yesterday). Since the DHS doesn’t give village-wise break-up, it’s difficult to say if this is the second wave in Zuarinagar or it has spread in other villages like Sancoale, Cortalim etc.

Covid19 cases have also alarmingly shot up in the last 26 days in areas like Siolim (98 to 222), Bicholim (88 to 203), Candolim (78 to 151), Canacona (85 to 132), Aldona (87 to 131) and Dharbandora (61 to 118).

The other centres where cases are rising include Pedne (141 to 229), Valpoi (113 to 229), , Corlim (132 to 222), Chimbel (114 to 219) and Chinchinim (37 to 57).

However, some centres are also a sigh of relief, like Ponda (300 to 128), Colvale (115 to 24), Shiroda (69 to 18), Curtorim (78 to 31), Navelim (99 to 56) and Quepem (121 to 72). Other centres, however, show a marginal decline.
