CM & Opposition Leader’s areas are the Covid hotspots

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s Sankhli, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat’s Madgao, two more cities and a township of Porvorim continue to be the Covid hotspots throughout this month. The spread of Covid cases, however, is seen reducing at least at 12 centres, predominantly the rural Goa.

We, however, cannot specify the exact areas since Directorate of Health Services does not mention specific cases in the panchayats and municipal towns in its daily media bulletins. Also, centre-wise daily fresh cases are not told to the people.

It appears that over 2000 cases will add up in September as the count has reached 1860 in 24 days.

Congress MLA Digambar Kamat’s Madgao and Goa Forward leader Vijai Sardesai’s Fatorda, attached to Madgao urban health centre, tops the list where Covid19 is not coming under control. Right from 1st September, the cases in this commercial town of South Goa have remained above 400. Today, it has 454 active cases.

Next to it is CM Pramod Sawant’s Sankhli, which has 429 active Covid19 cases today. The number was below 300 till 11th September and the beginning of the month had 203 active cases, the fourth in the rank.

But cases started rising since 12th September (281 to 312 cases) and crossed 400 within five days. Though the bulletin says Sankhli has 429 cases today, it had reached 451 cases two days ago, on 22nd September.

The thickly populated township of Porvorim, represented by Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte, is also showing a rising graph. From 182 cases on 1st September, it jumped to 228 cases the very next day. And it crossed 300 on 11sth September. Today, it has 382 active Covid19 cases.

Next in the line is the capital city of Panaji, while Taleigao is also attached to this health centre, led by Babush Monseratte and his minister wife Jennifer. 156 cases reported at this centre on 1st September jumped to 224 by 3rd September and crossed 300 by 16 th Septemeber, within 13 days. Today, Panaji-Taleigao combine has 355 active Covid19 cases.

Vasco was a Covid hotspot till 13th of August with 407 cases. But Margao overscored the port town by crossing 400 cases on the eve of Independence Day. Since then, Vasco has been now pushed to the fourth position, but still with 335 active Covid19 cases.

Cortalim health centre, to which attached is Zuarinagar, was next to Vasco till 10th August with 258 cases. But after reporting 327 active cases, the highest, cases started drastically declining from 7th August in this industrial zone. Today, it has been pushed down to sixth position with 269 active cases.

Covid cases also started rising in Mapusa, the commercial town in North Goa, from the first day of this month, with a sudden jump from 170 on 31st August to 185 on 1st September and 203 on the 2nd. Since then, the graph kept on rising for a week with 202 cases reported on 8th September. Though cases were declining since then, it suddenly once again crossed the 200 mark on 17th September. Today, it has 261 cases.

Goa has today 12 health centres, mostly rural, which have active Covid19 cases below 100. These are Quepem & Loutolim (96 each), Sanguem & Madkai (87 each), Cansarvarne (79), Navelim (68), Balli (61), Mayhem (53), Chinchinim (51), Colvale (44) Shiroda (37) & Curtorim (36).
