Covid surpasses Aug death toll; Max affected is 61-80 age group

The Covid pandemic has crossed last month’s toll of 150 within 19 days of this month. It has also surpassed the average of five deaths per day last month. And half of these deaths are between the age group of 61 to 80.
Goa has lost 360 lives till now, from the day the first casualty had occurred on 22nd June. Nearly half of them this month, till 21st September. Close to 46 per cent, 165 people have succumbed to deadly Covid19 this month.
The death count had begun from 22nd June and we had lost four lives (1 per cent) in nine days. The toll rose to 41 (11 per cent) in July and then zoomed up to 150 (42 per cent) in August.

LOSING SIX LIVES EVERY DAY
Compared to the average of five deaths per day last month, we have now started losing six lives every day on an average. In fact, we touched two digits this month at least six days till now. The recent one was 11 deaths on 17th September. (See the graph for details)
The first fortnight of this month was quite deadly as the state lost 122 lives within 15 days. More than double of what we lost (60) last month.
The toll seems to be rising even in the second fortnight. It has touched 43 in mere six days, till today afternoon.

61-80 MOST HIT AGE GROUP
It’s true that Goa has also started losing young lives nowadays. But from among 360 deaths, the number is not that scary. Goa has lost a total of 31 young lives to date, 29 out of which are between the age group of 25 to 40.
The state has also lost a 12-year old boy from Pedne, suffering from chronic leukemia, and a 14-year old girl from Vasco on 25th July.
Over half of the Covid19 casualties are however between the age group of 61 to 80. Out of 360, Goa has lost 184 in this age group, over 51 per cent.
The most affected age group however is between 61 to 70 years with 101 deaths while 83 Goans have succumbed to Covid in the age group of 71 to 80.
Deaths between the youngsters and the oldest are comparatively less in number, but not substantially. A total of 29 youngsters have succumbed to Covid19 in the age group of 25 to 40, besides two more of 12 and 14 years of age.
And 29 more elders we have lost between the age group of 81 to 97.
Goa has also lost 48 lives in the age group of 41 to 50 and 66 in the age group of 51 to 60.
