Goa getting into community transmission! Locals found Covid Positive!!

Amidst all kinds of rumours, it is now confirmed that one family of Mangor hill in Vasco and a local private doctor treating them are on a Covid radar. Also among them is a police constable. An elderly couple of the family is tested positive and shifted to Covid hospital. Others are awaiting final confirmation of laboratory tests from GMC hospital.

As a precautionary measure, police have cordoned the whole Mangor hill area and the whole staff of Colva police station is being shifted for Covid tests. The police station is also being sanitised.

The  whole Mangor hill is being declared a Containment Zone, especially from Varunapuri gate to the Ambabai temple, close to which is the locality where the positive cases are found.

As the news broke out by Monday evening, rumours started floating on who is the source of the spread of the Covid virus among the community.

goanews.com was initially told that a truck driver  from Mangor hill, travelling to Karnataka frequently, was tested positive for Covid, along with his wife.

Then came the news that a police constable was tested positive.

And then it was rumoured that a girl who traveled from Pune, a fiancee of one of the family members of the constable, was Covid positive.

Finally, what is being confirmed till now by the authorities, but on the condition of anonymity, is this:

The head of the family, who is in his ‘50s and living at Mangor hill, runs a business of fish fertilisers. Covid travelled to his house through a contact, probably a truck driver who brought the fish from outside Goa.

As this man and his wife were not feeling well, they visited the local doctor. And when they were feeling breathless, they were shifted to GMC early morning on Monday.

Both were tested Covid positive in two consecutive tests and were immediately shifted to Covid hospital in Madgao.

They are suffering with pneumonia.

As a team of the Health Department moved into action to trace the people in contact with him, the doctor was found positive in a Truenat test.

Also found Covid positive in the Truenat tests were two sons of the Covid positive couple, including the police constable as well as his wife.

All  of them were asymptotic.

But the Pune-based fiancee of the second son is tested negative.

While final confirmatory reports of laboratory tests of these four persons are awaited from the GMC hospital, the authorities immediately cordoned the whole Mangor hill area, blocking their exit till all the people are screened.

The area was also declared a containment zone.

On the other hand, all the police personnel at the Colva police station were also shifted to Madgao district hospital for Covid test, while sanitising the police station building.

A high police official also dismissed the rumour that this police constable was posted at Madgao railway station.

“He was not posted anywhere but the police station”, said the officer.

Till this report was published, the laboratory reports of other four persons as well as the police personnel had not come.

The health department teams are also tracing all other contacts these people came into, including the patients the local private doctor treated.
