Gangster Vinayak killed while Sada prisoners’ jail-break attempt fails

The unsuccessful attempt of jail-break by all the 49 prisoners of Sada sub-jail last midnight ended in a gangster Vinayak Korbatkar getting killed.
The jailor and jail guards were shifted to the GMC hospital last midnight after the prisoners attacked them.
At least six prisoners were also shifted to Bambolim in an injured state later early today morning.
The operation of jail-break was unsuccessful as over 200 police immediately rounded up the jail premises and stopped the prisoners from crossing the compound wall.
It is still not known how gangster Vinayak got killed but information gathered in this regard revealed that police resorted to lathicharge when they entered the premises to stall the attempt of jail-break.
The prisoners apparently planned the jail-break as the last batch of 49 inmates were to be shifted to Colvale central jail on 27th January.
The whole police operation took place in a pitch dark condition as the prisoners had broken all the tube lights and bulbs before they tried to escape after attacking the jailor and the jail guards.
The rounding up operation went on till 4 am as senior police officials including the South SP Chandan Chowdhary as well as Mormugao deputy collector Gaurish Shankhwalkar rushed to the spot.
Over 100 policemen from Karnataka, who were on election duty, were also pressed into the operation.
Gangster Vinayak was shifted to Sada sub-jail after he had killed his rival gangster and drug trader Ashpaq Bengre on 26th July last year at the Colvale central jail.
Deputy Collector Shakhwalkar said Vinayak created the problem in the jail and there was a fight inside the jail due to him.
According to South Goa SP Chowdhary, Vinayak was brought to the Sada sub-jail from Maharashtra, where the jail authorities had refused to keep him in the jail.
She said he also could not be kept in the Colvale central jail since he was involved in a murder there, killing his jailmate Bengre.
Information reveals that some more prisoners are also injured but only those with serious injuries were brought to the Chicalim cottage hospital and then shifted to the GMC hospital at Bambolim.
