Tibetan students protest near BRICS venue, against Chinese ‘aggression’
GOANEWS DESK, MADGAO | 15 October 2016 14:43 ISTThe two-day 8th summit of BRICS began in Goa with Tibetan youth protesting in the town of Margao today morning, adjoining the venue of the summit in the coastal villages of Mobor and Cavelossim.
Around 43 Tibetan students, including 12 girls, were arrested by Goa police at the Colva Circle in Margao, while protesting with banners and posters, blocking the BRICS logo displayed at the circle.
They are demanding that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi should raise the demand of freedom to Tibet from China in the BRICS summit.
“If not, take us there. We will talk to China Prime Minister Xi Jinping”, said one of the protestor.
Tibetans have been agitating for decades together against the ‘illegal occupation’ of Tibet by China.
Hundreds of Tibetans, especially the students and youth, have stormed Goa to continue their struggle against China and demand political autonomy for Tibet.
The Goa police are on a lookout for the Tibetans eight days prior to the summit.
It began with a group of Tibetan monks arrested by Goa police in Margao city on Wednesday, three days prior to the BRICS summit, attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The monks were released by the court on a condition not to enter South Goa district, where the summit is being held, but to roam around the costal Goa in the North.
This was followed by arrest of 11 students on Thursday and 20 students on Friday, as a preventive measure.
They were later released by the court on personal bonds and with a similar condition not to enter South Goa.
The Tibetan youth, under the banners of Tibetan Youth Congress and Students for a Free Tibet kept storming the South Goa district town while the summit took off in the neighbouring coastal villages.
Some students were also arrested in Delhi yesterday for staging similar protests.
Good work Students for Free Tibet !! People all around the world are behind you and back up your protest against China. Let's hope India takes a stand against the violence and destruction China is responsible for in Tibet.
Loving kindness to all living beings.
