GCA Trio remanded to 1-day custody, CM says no interference

Chetan Desai, Vinod Phadke and Akbar Mullah, three top officials of the Goa Cricket Association will remain behind the bars for one day.

The Panaji JMFC remanded them to the police custody for only one day while police had sought for seven-day custody.

After they were arrested last night on the charges of forgery of Rs 3.13 crore, the high profile trio had managed to get themselves admitted at GMC hospital, complaining of chest pain.

Treasurer Akbar Mullah didn’t even attend the court today claiming that his condition was still not stable.

The bail applications of all the three accused would come up for hearing tomorrow at 11.30 am.

The hearing on the extension of their remand would be taken up tomorrow at 4.30 pm.

Adv Abhijeet Kamat, lawyer of the accused, said police had sought seven-day remand mainly to get the minutes book.

However, the lawyer pointed out to the court that former president Shekhar Salkar had given a complaint that the same minutes book was stolen from his car.

“I don’t know what else police want to recover from them, for which they need the custody of our clients”, said Adv Kamat.

NO INTEREFERENCE: CM

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the government would not interfere with the police investigations.

His comment becomes pertinent since all the three top office bearers are enjoying political patronage in the Parsekar cabinet.

“I have given free hand to the police”, said Parsekar.

"I have given free hand to the police”, said Parsekar.

What do you mean Parsekar, is the 'free hand' is in your hands? These guys who have abused the cricket in Goa need to rot in jail, they are criminals of the worst kind!
