‘Dealer’ Rosy surrenders, she struck a deal to ‘sell’ minor girl to Babush
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 07 May 2016 13:31 ISTRosy Ferros, who struck a deal with former minister Babush Monseratte to buy the girl whom he allegedly raped, surrendered to Goa police today morning.
She is the third accused arrested by Goa police in a case of Babush allegedly buying a minor North-Eastern girl, seducing her with drinks and raping her.
According to police sources, Rosy was the middle person who negotiated a deal of Rs 50 lakh to buy the girl, who was then kept in the custody of Babush in the month of March.
She would be now produced before the JMFC, seeking her police custody for investigation.
Babush and girl’s mother have already been remanded to three-day police custody.
While Babush would be produced on Monday in the Children’s Court, his lawyer Adv Rajeev Gomes told goanews.com that he would not press for bailing him out even on Monday.
“Let the police complete the investigation. We know that our case is strong and Babush is innocent”, he claimed.
Babush has termed the whole incident as political vendetta by the BJP government while claiming that the girl was actually arrested by the police on the charge of stealing her mother’s jewellery.
Being a minor, she was then sent to Apna Ghar.
The incident came to light when she broke down before the activists of children’s NGO, who go to counsel the inmates at Apna Ghar.
The complaint was then filed on 4th May while Babush surrendered at the crime branch office in Ribandar the next day afternoon.
The police however formally arrested Babush late evening only after recording the victim girl’s statement before the magistrate.
As Babush is claiming it to be a politicised issue, the women’s police station and crime branch is taking all the legal precautions to gather the evidence to prove that it is a criminal act.
Besides gathering all kind of evidence including digital evidence, police say they have also recorded statements of almost 10 witnesses so far in the last three days.
