MGP to make MoI a precondition for poll alliance with BJP, supports BBSM

Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party seems to be walking hand in hand with the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch on the issue of Medium of Instruction.

After BBSM threat to defeat the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the next Assembly election, the MGP has said stand on MoI would be a precondition to form election alliance with its senior partner.

MGP supremo and PWD minister Sudin Dhawalikar has however denied any possibility of walking out of the government in protest of continuing government grants to Church-run English medium primary schools.

“People have given us mandate for five years and it is our duty to fulfil it”, he said.

Dhawalikar however did not fail to tell the media that his party is fully with the BBSM.

He also said the party has not instructed anybody not to attend the BBSM rallies, unlike the ruling BJP.

According to him, Tiatr and Goan folk would die if government continues promoting English medium education in the state.

“We will have only western music concerts in the Kala Mandirs we are building in next 25 years if we keep promoting English medium primary schools”, he felt.

When media persons pointed out that BBSM is accusing the government of sabotaging the MoI issue by going against its election promise to withdraw grants to Church-run schools, this was his reply:

“Are they saying that the MGP sabotaged the issue? Let them say it. I will admit it.”
