Poet Ashok Borkar passes away
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 29 February 2016 19:29 ISTAshok Borkar, owner of Borkar Super Stores and a prolific poet of Goa, expired today in Pune.
He was 62.
The funeral will be held at Margao crematorium tomorrow morning at 10.30.
The news of his sudden death has come as a shock, especially in the literary circles of Goa.
Several WhatsApp groups and Facebook posts have been discussing about his contribution to Marathi literature as well as the literary movement.
Borkar was hospitalised for an open heart surgery in Pune and was to be discharged today, but had to be rushed to the operation theatre due to internal bleeding.
A recipient of Bakibab Borkar Award instituted by The Goa Hindu Association of Mumbai, Borkar was well known for his dedication to poetry, along with his wife Kavita, a lecturer at Chowgule College, Margao.
Known as a pleasant personality intermingling with everybody, the initiative of Borkar couple – Kavya Maifal, had become a popular programme on the terrace of Gomant Vidya Niketan.
“He must have had over 100 poetry recital sessions till now and it has always witnessed more and more audience every time, involving poets in all the languages”, Janardan Verlekar, president of Gomant Vidya Niketan, told goanews.com.
He has three books to his credit, two among them are poetry collections – Kavyanubhuti (काव्यानुभुती) and Dilkhulas (दिलखुलास), besides a book on his late mother Nirmala Sadanand Borkar.
Brother of eminent builders Prakash and Avinash, Ashok Borkar has two daughters – Rutuja and Mithila.
Really shocking news that poet Ashok Borker is no more. He was well known for arranging kavi sammelans in margao every month. I had the opportunity of participating along with him in kavi sammelan on Goa Doordashan. His loss is hard to digest. My heartfelt condolences to the family. May his soul rest in peace.

Ashok bab will always be missed for his qualities and is an inspiration to all around him his friends, relatives & business associates to take his way of living as the gold standard to emulate.
