Official Language issue settled long ago: Sudin
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 11 January 2016 23:49 IST“The issue of official language of Goa has been settled long ago and now we need to unitedly work for the progress of the language”.
This has been reportedly told by none other than Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leader and PWD minister Sudin Dhawalikar to a delegation of Konkani Bhasha Mandal.
A press note issued by KBM in this regard said this statement has put an end to all speculations that the MGP was supporting the Marathi Raajbhasha Samiti's demand to make Marathi also the official language of Goa.
KBM is presently meeting all the MLAs in Goa to apprise them about the need to oppose Marathi as the official language of Goa.
KBM delegation also recently handed over the memorandum to Official language Minister Milind Naik who also did not seem to be in any mood to touch the official language act.
KBM has till date met Sports and youth affairs minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik.
The KBM said all of them have affirmed that there is no need to change the official language act of Goa in any manner.
KBM will soon be meeting all other MLAs and ministers to hand over the memorandum to them and apprise them about the need to promote the Konkani language in Goa, the language that gives this state its distinct identity, said the press note.
The memorandum handed over to the MLAs sights that this move by the Marathi Raajbhasha Samiti is just a move to divide people of goa on linguistic and religious lines.
People of Goa are facing several other issues and the need of the hour for the Goans is to unite and sort these issues first, says the memorandum.
@Mukesh Naik,
Do you know what is migration?
