Not surprised at 'rough' Chennaiyin with Materazzi as its coach: Wendell
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 21 December 2015 12:30 ISTWendell Rodricks, India’s renowned fashion designer and an ardent football fan, says he is not surprised with the rough play Chennaiyin FC team and rude behaviour of its captain when Marco Materazzi is their coach.
After winning the exciting final of Indian Super League against FC Goa, Chennaiyin FC captain Elano Blumer was arrested by Goa police late last night for abusing and assaulting FC Goa co-owner Dattaraj Salgaoncar.
“Not surprised at Chennai arrogance and rough play. After all their coach Marco Materazzi is famous for his temper and foul language”, Wendell said in his Facebook post.
Elbowing down Salgaoncar was not the only incident that prompted the whole team of FC Goa to boycott the prize distribution ceremony at Fatorda stadium in Margao yesterday.
Tempers ran high by the time the final whistle was blown at 3-2 due to the rough play of Chennaiyin FC, which was consistently ignored by the referees, allege FC Goa officials.
The officials were also upset at two penalties given in the last five minutes which, according to them, were undeserved.
As a result, the kit boy and coaching staff of FC Goa marched to Japanese referee Yudai Yamamoto after he blew the final whistle, arguing with him till the security staff cordoned him away.
The FC Goa officials also allege that the referee ignored dangerous play of two Chennaiyin FC players, which landed FC Goa’s Dudu Omagbemi in the hospital with head injury due to the unnoticed physical attack by Chennaiyin’s defender Mailson Alves.
Even Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who also boycotted the prize distribution ceremony, said the behaviour of the referee was not up to the mark.
Perhaps this incident reminded Wendell of the famous head-butt of former French Captain Zidane, who had knocked down Italian Marco in the 2006 World Cup final. It cost him his career.
While Italy won the World Cup as Zidane was red-carded, it was later revealed that Materazzi had provoked Zidane by abusing his hospitalised mother so that he misbehaves.
“Remember how he enraged Zidane by abusing his mother and sister? Zidane head butted him and got a red card in the World Cup between France and Italy. Materazzi did score both goals, then but lost my respect after his foul racist comments at Zidane”, recalls Wendell in his FB post.
He also lists out how Materrazzi’s career is full of 60 yellow cards and 25 red cards.
“His temper and bad behaviour seems to have rubbed off on the Chennai Captain who disgracefully assaulted Salgaoncar FC Goa co-owner post the match yesterday”, says Wendell.
The fashion designer however does not fail to decorate his post with praises for Chennaiyin players, especially Stiven Mendonza, who scored last two winning goals, while also cheering FC Goa players.
“Goa played well. Lost valiantly. Mendoza is splendid and an amazing player”, says Wendell.
Even CM boycotted the prize distribution? he must be out of his mind or probably it was too much love for the mine owners.
Wonder what is Wendell's opinion regarding Goan football fans driving very very rashly during the match day all around Goa.
They drive so rash and dangerously makes me wonder how aggressive the players would behave seeing the pressure of such fans.
