Govt finally appoints a CIC and two SICs
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 12 December 2015 21:22 ISTAlmost after a gap of one year, the Information Commission would probably be activated with the state government finally appointing a Chief Information Commissioner and two State Information Commissioners.
Goa government today issued an order appointing Prashant Tendolkar as the CIC while Pratima Vernekar and Juino D’Souza as the SICs.
They would be formally administered oath at Raj Bhavan, before taking over.
They were actually selected by a high-level selection committee couple of months ago, but the cabinet approval could not be taken due to code of conduct for municipal elections.
The post of CIC was vacant after the term of former CIC Leena Mehendle got over with she completing 65 years.
The posts of SICs have however been vacant for over two years while the number of cases piled up at the Information Commission is unimaginable.
The government selected and scrapped the posts of SICs at least four times, citing several reasons.
Though Mehendle was appointed the CIC in September 2013, she always cried for having no enough staff and even a full-time secretary for the office to function.
