Goa's BJP Govt is a 'Gang of Liars': BBSM

Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch has called the Bharatiya Janata Party government a ‘Gang of Liars’.

Uday Bhembre, a Konkani stalwart and leader of Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch, made this allegation in the presence of RSS Goa Sanghchalak Subhash Velingkar today in Panaji.

The BBSM had a Dharna-cum-meeting in the city today, launching its state-wide agitation to press for its long-pending demand of withdrawing grants to Church-run English medium primary schools.

“The BJP leaders give false assurances to come to power and then backtrack by betraying the people of Goa. They are nothing by a gang of liars”, said Bhembre.

He was referring to the assurances of the BJP not to promote English medium primary education by giving government grants but to support primary education only in local languages like Konkani and Marathi.

Former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who was part of BBSM when the agitation had started during Congress regime, made a volte face after coming to power in 2012 and continued the Congress policy of giving grants to 132 Church-run English medium primary schools.

“Parrikar is a betrayer. He has not only betrayed the local languages and Indian culture but also the people of Goa”, said Pundalik Naik, another Konkani stalwart.

Surprisingly, the participants in today’s Dharna had handful of Konkani activists, but leaders like Aravind Bhatikar and Nagesh Karmali were in the forefront.

Hand-in-hand with these Konkani stalwarts, Goa’s RSS leader Subhash Velingkar has now announced to intensify their stir from November onwards by marching to all 40 MLAs in their respective constituencies, in order to ‘convince’ them about their demand.

The BBSM is demanding withdrawal of grants to 132 primary schools run by Diocesan Society of Education as well as facilities to Konkani and Marathi medium private primary schools.

“The government has neither withdrawn the grants as assured nor released additional grants to Konkani and Marathi medium schools”, said Velingkar, the leader of Sangh Parivar, which the BJP belongs to.

Bhembre in fact went a step ahead and, in a humiliating tone, said the government should hand over its education department to the Diocesan Society of Education, if it can’t fulfil its promises.

“The casino department, drugs department and Dhirio department of this BJP government runs quite efficiently, but not its education department. Hand it over to the DSE. They will run it quite well”, he said sarcastically.

Really, its very sad that BJP govt is not giving the fundamental rights to Indian languages. I strongly feel that this Missionary oriented English Schools be shut down totally forever. What is the use of this foreign language. We should free our Bharat from foreign languages. Be Indian and promote only Indian Languages. Jai Hind. Jai Gomantak. Vander Mat aram.
